Benton Harbor R-TAB Could Soon Be Dissolved

The Benton Harbor Receivership Transition Advisory Board could soon become a thing of the past. The body, known as the R-TAB, is charged with approving financial decisions made by the city of Benton Harbor as it eases out of state control. R-TAB member Brett Witkowski tells us that since the city’s fiscal picture is looking stable, there’s little need for the R-TAB to exist.

“There’s been discussion about having the R-TAB go away based on the current financial state of the city which is good,” Witkowski told WSJM. “It’s tight, but they’re ingood shape, and they’re doing the things that they have to.”

Witkowski says the money is going where it’s supposed to be going, and things are looking brighter for Benton Harbor. He says a vote could happen next week to disband the R-TAB. It meets at 1 p.m. Thursday at Benton Harbor City Hall. If the R-TAB votes to dissolve itself, the decision would have to be approved by Governor Rick Snyder.
