Legislation Would Help Foster Siblings Stay Together

Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation designed to make being in the foster system a little easier for the kids. The plan from state Senator Rick Jones requires the state to make every effort possible to keep siblings together when they’re placed into the system. Jones says first-hand experience prompted him to write the legislation.

“I have found, personally because my family has taken in some 25 foster children, that if you keep siblings together it really helps them stay on the right track in school and succeed in life,” Jones said.

The new rules states that if siblings can’t be kept together, then they must be granted frequent visitation. It takes effect immediately.
