Leaders at Lake Michigan College are considering the pursuit of a capital improvement millage this November. Mary Klemm, Executive Director of the Lake Michigan College Foundation, says it’s been 20 years since the college had a new millage approved. What they may be asking for is .48 mills over ten years for a variety of work at the Napier Avenue campus.

“Many of the classrooms and lecture halls on the Napier campus require upgrading and modernization, meaning putting new technology in the classrooms, updating them to today’s standards for teaching and learning,” Klemm told WSJM.

The $40 million millage would also pay for an HVAC system. LMC has sent out surveys in recent months to gauge the public’s support for such a millage. If approved, it would amount to about $24 per year per $50,000 worth of taxable value on a home. Within the next month or so, the board of trustees will hear a recommendation on whether to move forward with the matter.
