A crew from Wolverine Pipeline Company, out of Portage, is working to clean up a diesel spill in Van Buren County. It was sent out to the scene at County Road 380 and 62nd Street when a farmer working on the adjacent property hit the line with an earth excavator around noon Friday. About 8,400 gallons of fuel was spilled into the field, and the line has since been shut off. Wolverine says it’s “cooperating and coordinating with local and state authorities in our response to minimize any impacts the incident may have on our neighbors, environment and surrounding community.” It’s also notified all of the necessary agencies. There were no injuries reported. The pipeline company urges the public to avoid the site while repairs and cleanup are underway.
