MI Lawmakers To Tackle Budget Reductions This Week

Michigan lawmakers will be getting back to work on the budget this Tuesday. House Speaker Kevin Cotter told Michael Patrick Shiels Monday that public education will likely not see major cuts.

“There’s a lot of agreement for keeping the increase that we have for K-12 education,” Cotter said. “we’re looking at another pretty substantial increase for K-12 education, and that’s something that’s really a priority.”

Lawmakers have to scale back parts of the state budget following last week’s news that revenues will not come in as high as expected. Cotter says he thinks the legislature should be able to find the necessary cuts in a responsible way.
