Heritage Museum Could Handle St. Joseph Lighthouse Tours

Tours could soon be offered of the new newly-restored lighthouses in St. Joseph, thanks to the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. At a Monday meeting, city commissioners agreed to have the museum organize and manage the tours. City Manager John Hodgson says they’re the perfect partner for the effort.

“They know their history, and they know how to provide information to the public,” Hodgson told WSJM. “We’re fortunate enough to have experts in the community. It’s fantastic that we’re able to cooperate with them, to take advantage of their skills and expertise.”

The museum’s board will consider the one-year agreement on Thursday. Hodgson says the public tours would start June 11, but the museum would offer free tours to some of the donors to the lighthouse fundraiser starting June 3. Registrations for the tours will be offered online.
