SWM Churches Organizing Summer Camp For Children From Flint

woods2

Some southwest Michigan churches are getting together to offer a free summer camp to children from Flint. The Reverend Jerri Porter, of Conner-Mayo African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dowagiac, says they want to give the kids a chance to escape the city’s water crisis and have some fun. Camp Joy will be held at Camp Baber in Cassopolis from June 27 to July 4, and there will be no cost to the children’s families. The children will be provided with all the clothing, swim suits, food, and toiletries they need. Porter tells us the camp will offer academics, arts, music, sports, and swimming to between 100 and 115 kids. They’re already begun registrations. Additionally, organizers of the camp want to welcome the families of the kids for a day of activities on July 4. They’re seeking area restaurants who want to help out, and also general volunteers.
