The University of Notre Dame will host an exhibition of manuscripts, printed books, maps and drawings from the Vatican Library beginning Sunday. The exhibition that runs through May 22 at the Snite Museum of Art will include Galileo’s1610 astronomical, “Sidereus Nuncius,” which was the first published scientific work based on observations made through a telescope. The collection also will include a 16th-century Mass composed by Josquin des Prz that represents the introduction of movable type for printing music. The exhibit is part of an agreement between Notre Dame and the Vatican Library that provides for cultural exchanges, joint research and conferences involving the two institutions.
