MI Senate Republicans Push Change To Comprehensive Energy Plan

Republicans in the Michigan Senate have introduced bills to change the state’s comprehensive energy plan in response to the recent closures of several coal-fired power plants. State Senator Mike Nofs, of Battle Creek, sponsored a bill that would grade proposals to power the state on reliability, adaptability, and affordability.

“We’ll find out what is the cheapest and most reliable,” Nofs told our reporting partners at WKZO.

Another bill, sponsored by state Senator John Proos, would update charges on electric bills to maintain the statewide electrical system, while mandating a 30% combined renewable energy and waste reduction goal. There is some opposition to that proposal because it would reduce the rate paid to residential solar panel owners who sell electricity back to the grid.
