Cook Nuclear Plant’s Unit 1 is back online. The refueling outage has been completed and the unit is back on the transmission grid after 36 days and six hours. Indiana Michigan Power says crews also replaced two 60-ton feedwater heaters that pre-heat water before it enters the steam generators. A 40-ton safety-related heat exchanger was also replaced. The utility brought in some 1,500 contract workers to supplement the 1,200 person staff during the outage. When both units are at full capacity as they are now, Cook produces enough power for more than 1.5 million homes.
