Michigan’s Average Gas Price Falls

We’ve got some of the state’s lowest gas prices in southwest Michigan. AAA Michigan’s survey of gas stations around the state puts the average price to start the week at $1.98, a drop of roughly 9¢ a gallon from a week ago. The Saginaw-Bay City-Midland area is enjoying the lowest prices at $1.89, while our prices in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph are down 15¢ from last week at $1.92. In the Upper Peninsula, drivers in Marquette have the highest prices at $2.04, and prices are also over $2 a gallon in Jackson at $2.01. GasBuddy.com spotters note prices in South Haven are $1.90 a gallon at all but one station, where the price is $1.99.

Stations have made the switch to cleaner-burning summer blends of gasoline, which cost more than the winter gas to produce. AAA says we can expect to see prices move a bit higher in the coming weeks as a result of that and due to continued maintenance at oil refineries in the Midwest.
