The man charged in a January double murder in Coloma will be arraigned this afternoon in St. Joseph. Alex Perez faces two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of the mother of his two daughters and her father. 27-year-old Renee and 67-year-old John Mitchell were found beaten to death in their Coloma home on January 15th. Perez was later arrested in Colorado, and from there tried to fight extradition. He was ordered back to Michigan last month, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says he arrived at the jail around 8:30 pm Thursday. At the time of his arrest in Colorado, Perez had his and Mitchell’s two small daughters with him. They were brought back to Michigan as he fought extradition.

Berrien County Prosecutor Mike Sepic says Perez faces two counts of 1st Degree Murder. He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. and his likely upcoming court events will be a pre-exam conference on April 15 and a preliminary exam hearing on April 21, unless adjourned for some reason by the court.
