Legislation Would Allow Retailers To Ship Wine

Lawmakers in a House committee are weighing legislation to allow in-state retailers to ship wine to people in Michigan. State Representative Ken Yonker, R-Caledonia, is sponsoring the bill and says retailers are losing out on over $60 million in sales to online wine retailers. He says the state is missing out on tax revenue too. Yonker, during a recent hearing on the measure, says he’s open to allowing retailers to ship beer as well but concedes the focus is on wine right now. The legislation, which is still in committee, would also clear the way for companies that run alcohol delivery apps to make deliveries for retailers in the state.
