Michigan election officials were expecting a hefty turnout for this week’s presidential primaries; however, in Berrien County as of late afternoon, local election officials were describing turnout as “healthy” but not quite at record levels. In St. Joseph the number of voters to hit the polls was slightly above average. Officials in New Buffalo and Bridgman told us the same, as did the Berrien County Clerk’s office. Voters across Michigan are picking their favorites in the presidential primaries, and also in Berrien County, there are a handful of local issues to decide. There’s a fire and police millage renewal in Watervliet, an operating millage in Baroda Township, a public safety millage renewal in Chikaming Township, a road millage proposal in Galien, and a school millage renewal in Benton Harbor.
