Polls open at seven am and close at eight pm Tuesday as Michiganders make their picks in the presidential primaries, and turnout is expected to be high. Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler says the presidential primaries in 2008 attracted 18 percent of the county’s voters, and 17 percent in 2012. She says if you want to avoid waiting at your polling place, you should go during the non-peak hours.

“There will be probably times in the morning, lunch time, and right after work that people rush in,” Tyler told WSJM.

Tyler says you’ll be asked which party’s primary you want to vote in, and then be given the corresponding ballot. All of the local proposals will be the same on both ballots. In Berrien County, there will be a fire and police millage renewal in Watervliet, an operating millage in Baroda Township, a public safety millage renewal in Chikaming Township, a road millage proposal in Galien, and a school millage renewal in Benton Harbor.
