Stronger State Regulations For Uber Could Be Discussed

Michigan lawmakers could be looking at putting some new regulations in place for the ride sharing service Uber, following Saturday’s shooting rampage in the Kalamazoo area by one of its drivers. Jason Dalton is accused of taking Uber fares in between killing six people. State Senator Rick Jones says he proposed legislation last year that would have increased regulatory standards for Uber, but it got nowhere. Now, he says that could change.

“That will be up to other senators to decide if now they’ve changed their mind,” Jones said.

Jones says Uber should be a responsible corporate citizen and agree to certain background check and insurance standards. The Grand Ledge Republican says more scrutiny is needed after Saturday’s tragedy.
