Legislation from State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker (shoot-maker) would honor veterans by designating the Honor and Remember Flag as Michigan’s official emblem representing the service and sacrifice they make. Schuitmaker says the Honor and Remember Flag would be recognized officially by the state under the bill.

“It would just recognize the sacrifice that service men and women who do not come home make,” Schuitmaker told WSJM.

George Lutz established Honor and Remember in 2008 after he lost his son Tony to a sniper in Fallujah, Iraq, and since then, several states have adopted the flag as an official symbol. Another bill introduced by Schuitmaker this week would make an Honor and Remember license plate available in the state. The two pieces of legislation are now before State Senate committees.
