Proos Talks Next Budget Priorities

State Senator John Proos says the state budget and the Flint water crisis won’t be the only things keeping the legislature busy over the next year. He says Michiganders can expect passage of criminal justice reforms within the next five months.

“Since they’re your dollars and my dollars, we want to get the best value out of that,” Proos said. “That gives us a chance, then, to put some metrics to it. Graduation rates, completion rates, the number of individuals that are served.”

Proos also expects eventual passage of an energy package. That was one of Governor Rick Snyder’s biggest priorities in 2015. The state is struggling with several issues there. One focuses on how Michigan will replace power lost by the closure of nine coal-fired plants next year, the other focuses on how the state will encourage future renewable energy development.
