A Wyoming, Michigan man is facing felony charges stemming from a January series of crashes on I-94 that resulted in two deaths. Michigan State Police say 40 year old Timothy Martinez was arrested on a four count warrant after an investigation determined he’d been driving recklessly in the incident.

Police say on January 17th, around two pm, the chain reaction began on the highway near Hartford. Ultimately, a total of 44 vehicles became involved. A mother and son from Northville, Michigan were killed, and a Van Buren County sheriffs deputy suffered serious injuries, along with another driver. Martinez had been driving a commercial vehicle in the incident.

The Van Buren County Prosecutor’s office has charged Martinez with two counts of reckless driving causing death, and two counts of reckless driving, causing serious impairment of a bodily function. Martinez was arraigned and released on Friday. Additionally, Michigan State Police say they’ve issued citations to 20 drivers involved in the wreck who were going too fast for the slick conditions. Police once again remind drivers to slow down when there’s ice and snow on the road.
