An open seat in the state House in the 79th District in Berrien County is attracting the attention of both political parties. Republican Ryan Arnt announced his candidacy last month, and Democrat Marletta Seats is also seeking the office. Seats is currently a Berrien County Commissioner. Both paid the Secretary of State’s Office the $100 filing fee to run. Republican Representative Al Pscholka currently holds the office, but is done in the House at the end of the year due to term limits. He’s held the office since 2010 when John Proos moved over to the state Senate. Representative Dave Pagel of Berrien Springs has not yet filed with the state to seek reelection to a third and final term in the House.
