Upton Committee Seeks Answers On Flint Water Crisis

Congressman Fred Upton says the water crisis in Flint is unacceptable, and federal lawmakers want answers. His Energy and Commerce Committee last week heard from EPA officials on how it was that high lead levels in the city’s water were known by some state agencies, and yet, they weren’t reported. The briefings were interrupted by the east coast snow storm.

“We still have a good number of questions as to why EPA actually apparently knew about this, and didn’t do anything, or didn’t do enough, certainly, to bring it to the public’s attention and demand changes,” Upton told WSJM.

Upton says he hopes to get more EPA officials before his committee next week. He adds he thinks it’s inspiring to see entities all over the country stepping up to help Flint’s residents, as everyone from rock stars to corporations pledge their support.
