The man accused of killing the mother of his two daughters and her father is not coming back to Michigan without a battle. Alex Perez is fighting extradition from Colorado to Berrien County to face murder charges for the deaths of 27-year-old Renee and 67-year-old John Mitchell. The two were found beaten to death in their home in Coloma earlier this month, and Perez was captured in Colorado with his and Renee Mitchell’s two young daughters. The three and four-year-old girls are in protective custody out west. Police believe Perez was trying to get to California or Mexico when he was caught. The extradition fight could mean it might be another three months at least before he’s brought back to Michigan for his double murder and kidnapping trial. Perez made his first court appearance yesterday in Clear Creek County, Colorado and asked for a court-appointed attorney.
