Congressman Fred Upton plans to meet with Ibrahim Parlak on Wednesday. The Kurdish restaurant owner could once again be facing deportation in a few months. Upton, who in the past has worked with former Senator Carl Levin on legislation to allow Parlak to remain in the US, says he and Parlak will make good use of the 90 day deportation stay he was recently granted by the Department of Homeland Security.

“We had some very good news when were able to successfully back off the Department of Homeland Security from trying to send him somewhere outside of the United States,”Upton told WSJM. “This is a man who has tremendous community support.”

Since Carl Levin retired, Upton has been trying to find a Senate Democrat who will work with him on a legislative solution to Parlak’s plight. However, he says he will discuss other possible methods of helping him stay in the country when the two meet at Parlak’s Cafe Gulistan Wednesday.
