A state grant of just over $50,000 is coming to the United Way of Southwest Michigan’s Be Healthy Berrien program. Heather Cole heads it up, and says the funding will be put towards projects in Niles.

“The first project aims to work with 20 work sites to help employees be more physically active through the workday,” according to Cole. She adds that will be done “through new or improved work site wellness programs.”

The second project being funded by the grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services would create and install signs for biking and walking paths. Cole tells WSJM News that would “make it easier for path users to find the trailhead and navigate between their key destinations.”

29 organizations around the state applied for the grants, and seven were chosen to share $425,000.
