MITA: Toll Roads Not Out Of Michigan's Future

The recently approved road funding package in Lansing included a lot of things, but did not include the toll roads. That does not mean the idea has gone away. Lance Binoniemi of the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association says toll roads — the modern version of it — could still be in Michigan’s future. He cites a recent conversation with a friend in Texas.

In other states, such things as toll lanes have gained popularity by offering a faster option for those willing to pay for it. He says an example could be I-94, which in some areas has been a “miserable” drive. He adds they support the idea of “having a toll road outside of that, which people can use as a convenience. So far, however, there are no serious proposals in Lansing to create toll roads.
