Bear Spotted In Bridgman

Bridgman is the latest Berrien County community in which there’s been a bear sighting. The Bridgman Police Department tells us that a woman has reported seeing a black bear in her yard on Friday night. She tried to get a photo of it, but it was too dark. Police were called Saturday to check out the area west of Red Arrow Highway on Lake Street, and found some bear prints. The DNR’s Jordyn Richardson told us earlier this year that you should take a few precautions if you know there’s a bear nearby.

That, in particular, includes bird feeders, as bears love birdseed. It isn’t known if the bear in Bridgman is the same black bear that has attracted so much attention as it’s made its way around southwest Michigan and northern Indiana, but the Michigan DNR would like to get reports if you see a bear. It can be reached at 685-6851. The photo above is from an earlier bear sighting.
