The Berrien County Board of Canvassers has certified this past week’s elections, and with that comes an update to some races in Benton Harbor. The Berrien County Clerk’s office tells us that the write in votes in some city commission races have been finalized, although they don’t change the final outcomes of the races. In Ward One, City Commissioner Sharon Henderson is still the winner, but write in challenger Edward Isom received 70 votes to her 216. In Ward Two, CF Jones still wins, with 97 votes against write in Cora Robinson’s 62. Also, in the commissioner at large race, Mary Alice Adams and Bryan Joseph remain the winners, with Jerry Price getting 383 votes, and write in candidate Emma Kinnard getting 196. The clerk’s office says that, so far, no one has requested a recount. Turnout in the city averaged 9.4 percent this week, which was up from the August primary’s average turnout of 6.8 percent.
