The US Coast Guard says that it rescued a surfer in distress in Lake Michigan off of Saint Joseph’s Lions Park Beach Friday. A report came in about 4:30 pm that the 19 year old had been pulled out by waves, and was about a quarter mile off shore clinging to his board. The Coast Guard was able to pick the man up using a 45 foot response boat from its station in Saint Joseph. The man was not injured and didn’t require medical treatment. A buoy in the area at the time of the incident was reporting waves on the lake as high as eight feet.
