Enrollment Down At Benton Harbor Schools

Despite earlier projections to the contrary, it looks like enrollment at Benton Harbor Schools will be down this year. At a Tuesday work session, one day ahead of the official Student Count Day, Acting Superintendent Gregory Weatherspoon said that the count stands at about 23 hundred kids, down about 100 from last year. He says getting students back will require a more attractive curriculum at the high school.

One question is how to offer career and technical training within the district’s limited budget. Weatherspoon added that district officials know where the students are going off to when they choose other area districts. Now, it’s just a matter of getting them back.
