A Coloma man who admitted to killing his 79 year old mother this year has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. 47 year old Monty Menefee pleaded guilty to murder in August. He killed his mother, Lavonne Monta, at their home in April. Menefee then stole a car and remained on the lam for several days before police caught up to him in Ohio. Prosecutors say that Menefee’s mother was stabbed multiple times in the neck and that Menefee also tried to suffocate her with a pillow. He was sentenced Monday afternoon by Judge Gary Bruce.
