DNR: Straits Pipeline Drill Successfull

On the heels of a University of Michigan study which determined that the Straits would be the “worst possible place” for a Great Lakes oil spill, hundreds took part in a drill this week to test that. Ed Golder of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources believes the drill, simulating a pipe burst of Enbridge Energy’s Line 5 in the Straits involving the DNR, Enbridge, the Coast Guard, went well.

He adds, however, that the industry considers it a success to recover about 30% of the oil spilled. An Enbridge pipeline burst in Calhoun County in 2010, sending hundreds of thousands of gallons of crude oil into the Kalamazoo River.
