Members of Michigan’s congressional delegation are giving high praise to the address to Congress by Pope Francis on Thursday, and hopefully setting a higher tone for politics in the nation’s capitol. In that speech, the Pope urged members of Congress to be inspired by the Golden Rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. He called politics an expression of the compelling need to live as one in order to build the greatest common good. Michigan Senior US Senator Debbie Stabenow, noted a change in legislative interactions since Pope Francis landed in the United States and she hopes his visit can reset political discourse in Congress.
