A 20 year old Dowagiac man managed to swim to safety on Saturday morning after he crashed his car into a pond in Cass County. The sheriffs department says that it happened shortly after one am on M 62 near Dutch Settlement Road in Wayne Township. Caleb Jones was heading west on M 62 when he fell asleep behind the wheel. His vehicle hit a guardrail, and then went into Dowagiac Mill Pond. Jones managed to get out of the vehicle through a sunroof and swim to shore. He was taken to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac to be checked out. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
