The city of Saint Joseph will be kicking in the remaining money needed to complete renovations at its historic lighthouses to make sure they’re all finished in time for next spring. The two million dollar fudraising goal of the Lighthouse Forever Fund hasn’t quite been reached, falling roughly 113 thousand dollars short as the year comes to an end, and Saint Joe City Manager John Hodgson says that the city commission Monday gave its green light to go ahead and finish the work.

The Lighthouse Forever Fundraising effort still isn’t over, so the rest of that money could still come in, but Hodgson says that the city owns the lighthouse, and has to maintain and preserve it. So, the commission gave its approval to put together a change order to make it happen. Also Monday, the commission agreed with a subcommittee’s recommendation to wait until next spring to begin construction on the donor wall at Tiscornia Park to honor those who have given 500 dollars or more to the project. That wall will be located at the park near the entrance to the catwalk and lighthouses, and it will have markings on it in honor of those donors.
