The investigation continues into the theft of a World War I era cannon from outside of the VFW post on Napier Avenue in Benton Township. Police Detective Jeff Farone says that the theft, which occurred in late August under cover of darkness, may not have been committed by a common variety metal scrapper, as originally thought.

Farone says that it looks like whoever took the three thousand pound cannon dragged it on to a flatbed truck somehow. He adds that Benton Township police have been in contact with other law enforcement agencies, asking them to keep an eye out for the relic.
