Life in prison without parole awaits 47-year-old Monty Menefee of Coloma. He entered a guilty plea yesterday to Murder 1 according to Berrien County Prosecutor Michael Sepic. Menefee killed his 79-year-old mother, Lavonne Monta, at their home on April 24. Sepic says prosecutors dropped an habitual offender charge, and he will not be charged with any other crimes committed after the murder in Berrien County, which included stealing a vehicle. Menefee will be sentenced on October 5 in front of Judge Bruce.
