Gary Peters Talks Waterfront Community Revitalization Act

Senator Gary Peters last week announced that he’s joining three colleagues to support legislation designed to help revitalize waterfront communities, including Michigan towns and cities along the Great Lakes. He says that the Waterfront Community Revitalization and Resiliency Act would encourage efforts to attract water-dependent industries, and also make investments in waterfront communities designed to enhance development, as well as recreation and tourism.

Among other things, the new legislation would create a voluntary Resilient Waterfront Community designation within the US Department of Commerce to recognize communities that adopt a waterfront revitalization and resiliency plan. Peters says that would put waterfront communities in a better position when pursuing federal grants for improvements.
