Nesbitt Appointed To Radioactive Materials Committee

State Representative Aric Nesbitt has been appointed to serve on the National Radioactive Materials Committee. The committee is a branch of the Council of State Governments set up to coordinate how different states plan for the transport of spent nuclear fuel. Nesbitt says that he was picked to be Michigan’s legislative member due to his work in the past with advocating for the opening of the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste storage facility in Nevada.

Nesbitt says that, with two nuclear power plants in southwest Michigan, the matter of planning for the transportation of waste is one of particular importance in the region. As part of the multi state committee, he says that he’ll also work with the Department of Energy.
