Man Charged With Drunk Driving After I-94 Incident In Van Buren County

A Chicago man is facing charges in Van Buren County after the sheriffs department says he was caught driving extremely drunk on I 94 Monday morning. Shortly before ten AM, Van Buren County Sheriffs deputies were notified by Kalamazoo County Dispatch about a gray BMW SUV swerving all over the westbound side of the road and hitting some signs. They were able to locate the BMW in question headed west on I-94 near the 64 mile marker, and saw it swerve off and then back on to the road. Deputies tried to pull it over, but the driver didn’t stop until they were at the 60th mile marker near the Paw Paw exit. The man refused to take a breath test, and police had trouble giving him a field sobriety test, as he couldn’t stand up without help. Instead, a blood sample was taken, and the 36 year old was lodged in the Van Buren County Jail. He’s charged with drunk driving. A dog that was in the SUV was taken to the Van Buren County Animal Control shelter.
