Update: Teen In Stable Condition After Being Hit By Car In Van Buren County

A 15-year-old Berrien Springs boy is in stable condition at a Kalamazoo hospital after being hit by a car early yesterday morning. In an update to a story we first brought you yesterday afternoon, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says the teen has a broken hip, a brain contusion, and needed 17 staples on his head to close a cut. He and two others were walking along 68th Street in Geneva Township when he was hit just before 4:30 a.m. yesterday. The other two were not hurt, and police say the road has no lights and the teens did not have flashlights or reflective clothes. The driver who hit the boy says she never saw them, while the teens told police she crossed the center line of the road when the accident happened. The Geneva Township woman was headed home from work, and police say alcohol was not a factor.
