Bears 27, Eagles 4 – Case Keenum drives Chicago to 3 touchdowns as the Bears beat the Eagles 27-7
Case Keenum passed for two touchdowns in his first start in almost three years, and the Chicago Bears shut down Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles for a 27-7 victory. Stepping in for the injured Caleb Williams, Keenum was 24 for 34 for 247 yards. He also scored his first rushing touchdown since 2019 on a 1-yard plunge with 7:19 left, capping a 13-play drive that took more than eight minutes off the clock. It was Keenum’s first action since he started for Houston in a 36-22 loss to Cleveland on Dec. 24, 2023. Philadelphia turned the ball over three times.
NFL – Turnovers, penalties and poor decisions costly in Eagles’ 27-7 loss to Bears
Turnovers, penalties and poor decisions were costly in Philadelphia’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night. The Eagles also were hurt by circumstances out of their control when quarterback Jalen Hurts was in concussion protocol.First, let’s look at what was in their control. Hurts threw an interception, backup Andy Dalton tossed an end-zone pick when Hurts was being evaluated, and the Eagles lost a fumble while forcing zero turnovers for the Bears.“You can’t sustain wins,” coach Nick Sirianni said of losing the turnover battle. “Obviously have to make a change there.”
NFL – Jalen Hurts wants the Eagles to learn from their mistakes in a loss to the Bears
It was a rough game for Jalen Hurts, both on the field and in the blue injury tent on Philadelphia’s sideline. Hurts was sacked twice and threw an interception during a 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. The Eagles were limited to 62 yards of offense in the second half and 248 for the game. Hurts was 16 for 25 for 153 yards. He also had four carries for 25 yards and a touchdown. He was pulled off the field in the second quarter to get checked for a possible concussion, and Andy Dalton threw an interception in the end zone while he was out of the game.
NFL – Giants acquire QB J.J. McCarthy from the Vikings for a 2027 fifth-round pick
The New York Giants have acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings for a 2027 fifth-round pick. The Vikings announced the trade Monday pending McCarthy passing a physical. The Giants made the aggressive move days after Jaxson Dart had surgery on his left knee that will sideline him for at least the rest of the regular season. Jameis Winston started and beat Tennessee on Sunday, and coach John Harbaugh said afterward that Winston would get the nod again this coming weekend against Arizona. It’s unclear what that means moving forward after adding McCarthy.
NFL – Lions look to bring back explosive plays after they were limited in win over Jets
The Detroit Lions’ offense is built around big plays in both the passing and running games. Jahmyr Gibbs is a constant threat as a runner and receiver, and Jared Goff has plenty of other weapons in Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta. On Sunday, though, none of that was working. New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn was Detroit’s defensive coordinator from 2021-24, and his scheme forced the Lions to move down the field methodically. Detroit was still able to win 31-24 thanks in part to Gibbs, who finished with 164 total yards and three touchdowns.

WNBA – Booed on the road, Caitlin Clark and the Fever now face a must-win game at home
The Indiana Fever face a tough challenge after losing to the Las Vegas Aces 102-85 in the WNBA playoffs opener. The Fever must win Tuesday to force a deciding Game 3 back in Las Vegas. Fever coach Stephanie White emphasized the need to improve both defense and offense against the high-scoring Aces. A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 38 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shot. The Fever hope to rally at home. Both coaches criticized the first-round format, suggesting it should be five games.

MLB – Padres hope to ride energy from home crowd when they host Cubs in NL Wild Card
Back in 1984, Tony Gwynn, Steve Garvey and the San Diego Padres used the energy from their home crowd at Jack Murphy Stadium to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the National League Championship Series and stun Ryan Sandberg, Gary Matthews and the Chicago Cubs to reach their first World Series. Now, Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and the Padres hope to tap that home energy once again when they open a Wild Card Series against NL MVP frontrunner Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman and the Cubs at packed, raucous Petco Park.
MLB – A pair of unlikely playoff teams collide as the Astros face the White Sox
The Houston Astros are the first team to reach the postseason without a winning record. The Chicago White Sox are the only team in major league history to follow consecutive 100-loss seasons with a playoff berth. Now these two improbable playoff teams will meet in an AL Wild Card Series starting Tuesday. The Astros are led by AL MVP favorite Yordan Alvarez, who won the AL batting title and ranked second in the AL with 106 RBIs and was tied for second with 42 homers. Chicago features three 30-homer stars, led by Japanese rookie slugger Munetaka Murakami, who hit 35, Miguel Vargas with 33 and Colson Montgomery, who had 31.
MLB – Lockout Looms as Players Vow to Fight Salary Cap
Carlos Rodón of the New York Yankees says players are ready for a long lockout if MLB owners push for a salary cap. The current labor contract ends Dec. 1, and an expected lockout would halt trades and free-agent signings. MLB argues a cap is needed to reduce economic disparity, but players disagree, citing successful low-payroll teams like Milwaukee and Tampa Bay. MLB’s proposal includes a cap on team spending and a revenue split, but players say the details would reduce their earnings. This would be MLB’s 10th work stoppage. No regular-season games have been lost since 1994-95.
NCAA – Senate passes college sports bill will rein in athlete payments and transfers
The Senate has passed a sweeping bipartisan bill that would regulate college sports. It’s an attempt to end “chaos” in an industry that has been upended by skyrocketing athlete payments and near-unrestricted transfers between schools. Passage of the legislation Monday would be the strongest effort yet by Congress to set national regulations governing payments to college athletes for their name, image and likeness and how often they can transfer. It would give the NCAA new authority over those rules and limited antitrust protections to enforce them. The legislation still has to pass the House.
NCAAFB – Michigan State RB Cam Edwards had season-ending knee injury in Nebraska loss
Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald says running back Cam Edwards had a season-ending knee injury in a loss to Nebraska. Edwards ran for 304 yards and three touchdowns in three-plus games for the Spartans before he was hurt in the first quarter of a 31-13 loss to the Cornhuskers on Saturday. He transferred to Michigan State after running for 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns last season at Connecticut and having 2,690 yards and 27 touchdowns over four years with the Huskies. The Spartans (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) play at Wisconsin (3-1, 1-0) on Saturday.

NHL – Players who took long contracts before salaries skyrocketed shake off remorse
Many NHL players who signed long-term contracts before this past summer of high spending suddenly look underpaid. Tage Thompson is a steal for Buffalo at a salary under $7.2 million through 2029-30. Same for Frank Nazar at $6.6 million with Chicago through ’32-33. There is some level of regret about leaving money on the table given how quickly salaries have ballooned around the league. But some of the sport’s biggest stars knew this was coming and still prioritized long-term security.
