Benton Township will retain its engineering firm, Prein and Newhof, as it continues replacing and updating water and sewer infrastructure all over the community.
At a Tuesday meeting, the board of trustees approved an updated professional services agreement with the company, saying it’s done an excellent job of managing all sorts of construction projects since being hired in 2019.
Township Supervisor Cathy Yates told us Prein and Newhof has seen Benton Township through millions of dollars of work.
“They’ve gotten grants for us,” Yates said. “They’re working on the water towers right now, getting those going. They’ve been really an asset to the township. They’re really independent people, meet with us, keep us up to date on what’s going, and right now we’re going to be doing some improvements to the water plant. Prein and Newhof will be taking the lead on that for us.”
Yates said the cost of contracting with the firm depends on what projects it manages because the charges are all project specific. Township Clerk Carolyn Phillips said the new contract is similar to the previous one, although slightly better. Of Prein and Newhof, Treasurer Debbie Boothby said, “They have done such a great job.”
The company has offices in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
