Tigers 11, Mariners 0 – Dingler homers for 3rd straight game, helping Tigers to an 11-0 win over the Mariners
Dillon Dingler homered for the third straight game and finished with three hits and three RBIs as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 11-0. Detroit (56-59) won for the fifth time in six games and moved within a game of Texas in the race for the final American League wild-card spot. The Tigers have scored at least eight runs or more in seven of their last eight games. The loss dropped Seattle (56-60) three games behind Houston in the AL West and 1 1/2 games out of the wild card. Framber Valdez limited the Mariners to five hits in seven innings and didn’t allow a run for the first time since June 16.
Red Sox 12, White Sox 11 – F/13 – Durbin’s RBI single in the 13th caps Red Sox’s 12-11 win over the White Sox
Caleb Durbin lined a single to center field off Chicago’s Erick Fedde in the 13th inning to score NIck Sogard and the Boston Red Sox rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 12-11. Connor Wong had a two-run home run, Anthony Siegler added three RBIs and scored a run. Wilyer Abreu had two RBIs, including one to tie the game in the ninth. Andruw Monasterio also added two RBI doubles. Brayan Bello (4-6), the last of nine Red Sox pitchers, worked two innings and earned the win. Fedde (6-7) was the last of eight Chicago pitchers in a game that lasted four hours and 23 minutes.
Cubs 3, Blue Jays 2 – F/11 – Pete Crow-Armstrong scores on error in 11th and Cubs rally for 3-2 win over Jays
Pete Crow-Armstrong scored on a throwing error in the 11th inning after Alex Bregman hit a two-strike, two-out homer in the ninth, and the Chicago Cubs rallied for a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Crow-Armstrong singled leading off the 11th against Brendon Little, but automatic runner Carson Kelly was thrown out at the plate. The MVP candidate then tried to steal third and Blue Jays catcher Brandon Valenzuela overthrew third baseman Josh Smith, allowing Crow-Armstrong to dash home. He took off his helmet before touching the plate and then tossed it into the protective netting before he was mobbed by teammates.

Sky 95, Sparks 88 – Gray hits buzzer-beating 3s after Clark’s mistakes to lift Aces past Fever 86-84 in OT
Chelsea Gray made two buzzer-beating 3-pointers after Caitlin Clark’s uncharacteristic mistakes, the first to force overtime and the second to give the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces an 86-84 victory over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night. Clark missed two free throws with seven seconds left in regulation and Indiana up by three, then lost the ball with seven seconds to go in overtime and the Fever a point ahead. Clark had 20 points and eight assists along with eight turnovers. A’ja Wilson had 26 points, 13 rebounds and the key defensive stop against Clark that set up Gray’s winner. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 28 points, but also missed a late free throw in regulation.

WNBA – New era for USA Basketball with Clark, Reese, Bueckers set for World Cup debuts
Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers will make their World Cup debuts as members of the U.S. women’s national team next month. The trio will try to help the U.S. win its fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup title. The young stars will be joined by Olympic medalists A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, Kahleah Copper and Kelsey Plum. Rhyne Howard and Aliyah Boston will also be making their World Cup debuts.

Panthers 33, Cardinals – Undrafted rookie QB Haynes King leads Panthers to 33-30 comeback win over Cardinals
Undrafted rookie quarterback Haynes King ran in from the 5 on the final play of the game to lead the Carolina Panthers to a 33-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame game that kicked off the NFL preseason. King was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year last season at Georgia Tech. He went 21 of 34 for 180 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 39 yards and the winning score. Carson Beck had an impressive debut for Arizona, throwing for 188 yards and a touchdown.
NFL – Lions make Jahmyr Gibbs NFL’s newest highest-paid running back with 3-year deal
The Detroit Lions have agreed to a contract extension with Jahmyr Gibbs, a three-year deal worth up to $75.7 million that his agents say makes him the NFL’s newest highest-paid running back. Athletes First announced the deal Thursday, hours after Gibbs took the field for the first time since the Lions’ training camp started. His agents also noted the new contract includes $51.5 million guaranteed for the Pro Bowler. Two days earlier, Atlanta briefly made Bijan Robinson the NFL’s highest-paid running back. Gibbs rushed for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and had 77 receptions for 616 yards and five more TDs.
NFL – Cam Lewis seeing more reps at Bears safety after Coby Bryant injury
Cam Lewis takes pride in being a team player. Whatever the Chicago Bears need from him, he is ready to go. Right now, that’s free safety. Lewis has been filling in for Coby Bryant since he left practice Monday with an apparent left leg injury. The 29-year-old Lewis signed a two-year contract with Chicago in free agency. Depending on how long Bryant is sidelined, Lewis could take on a more expanded role early in the season.
NFL – Colts keep Jonathan Taylor with 2-year, $44 million deal,
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension worth $44 million, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday. The person requested anonymity because the team had not made an official announcement and does not release contract terms. The deal keeps Taylor, the 2021 NFL rushing champ, off next spring’s free agent market. Taylor had repeatedly said he wanted to remain with the Colts for the rest of his career.
FIFA – UEFA maintains World Cup boycott threat after Gianni Infantino’s crisis meeting
European soccer’s governing body says it has retained its threat to boycott FIFA competitions despite FIFA apologizing for its failed plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. UEFA reiterated its stance that it had lost confidence in FIFA president Gianni Infantino. UEFA also says conditions to withdraw its boycott threat have not been met, specifically that “assurances have to be made that such attempts to disfigure the game in this way will never be made again.” FIFA and Infantino tried to present a united front following a high-level summit in Morocco on Wednesday when it announced the president had the full support of those in attendance.
Trump celebrates US Winter Olympians and Paralympians at the White House
President Donald Trump has hosted the U.S. Winter Olympians and Paralympians at the White House, honoring their accomplishments in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games. Nearly half of Team USA athletes attended the reception in the East Room, along with coaches and staff. Speedskater Jordan Stolz, who placed his gold medal around Trump’s neck at a recent rally, was among them. Three hundred U.S. athletes participated in the games and won 57 medals. The U.S. men’s hockey team previously visited Trump in February. Members of the women’s hockey team, who declined an earlier invitation, attended Thursday’s celebration.
