The Dowagiac Conservation Club will host its fifth annual Traditional Archery Shoot this month.

The club’s Adam Maxey tells us the three-day event will be held at the conservation club property on M-51 in Dowagiac with camping, vendors, and a whole lot of archery. They’ll have about 75 3D targets around the grounds on multiple courses throughout the weekend.

“There’s a big game course where we’ll have moose and buffalo and grizzly bears,” Maxey said. “Then we have a small game course. We’ll have  raccoons, turkeys, mosquito targets.”

They’ll also have a course in the swamp area and an aerial course. Maxey says the weekend will be a great way for archery enthusiasts of all ages to hone their skills.

So, what makes archery a popular sport?

“It’s fun and anybody can do it. I have a 15-year-old and 11-year-old, and they both love to do it. And it’s one of those things that you can just pick up and start doing. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You can go as cheap as you want to to get started, and then you can get into crazy custom handmade bows and stuff like that that a lot of guys shoot. But you can. The sky’s the limit on most of this stuff.”

The conservation club archery weekend is full of events for everyone, like a long-distance shot competition, the Iron Buck Tournament, a Bow Skirmish, and Archery Cornhole. Ground Zero Archery of St. Joseph will be on site to help everyone with their archery needs.

The Traditional Archery Shoot will be Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28. Admission to the event will be $20 per day, and a weekend pass is available for $30.
