St. Joseph Today will kick off the Christmas season with the lighting of luminaries downtown next Friday, November 21.
St. Joe Today’s Daniele Crevier tells us businesses throughout the area are taking part, putting out hundreds of luminaries along the streets and holding special hours.
“We literally put out luminary bags throughout downtown on State Street and the side streets, so there’s about a thousand bags, and then they light your way,” Crevier said. “That also kicks off the holiday music that St. Joe Today will play downtown from about 12 to 8 daily through Christmas Eve.”
And Crevier says the event also marks the start of the Countdown to New Year.
“That is our daily giveaway event throughout the month of December. But how that works is shoppers can turn in receipts from purchases made at St. Joe Today member stores, November 21 through December 14. And then actually on Luminary and Small Business Saturday and Merry and Bright Weekend, you actually get double entries.”
Also next Friday, the city of St. Joseph will light up some of the holiday lights it’s been stringing up around the downtown. You’ll be able to see them along State Street and nearby side streets. Light Up the Bluff, a separate event, will be December 5.
Crevier says next Friday will also feature rides on the Jolly Trolley throughout the downtown. Rides on the holiday-decorated trolley will be offered between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m.
