Benton Harbor Area Schools Superintendent Simone Griffin has issued a statement after she says she was involved in a “regrettable and unfortunate” confrontation.

In her message to the district on Wednesday, Dr. Griffin says she was recently involved in the confrontation and has since met with the parents and students involved. She says, “Through open and honest dialogue, we have reached a place of mutual understanding and reconciliation,” adding she’s grateful for their willingness to come together in that spirit.

Griffin doesn’t share further details about the situation but says she deeply regrets that it occurred.

Griffin continues that the district is committed to fostering respect, empathy, and strong relationships, and the “experience has strengthened my commitment to modeling those values and ensuring that every interaction reflects the dignity and care our students and families deserve.”

From the Office of the Superintendent:

Good afternoon Tiger Nation,

Recently, I was involved in a confrontation that was both regrettable and unfortunate. As your Superintendent, I hold myself to the highest standards of professionalism and care, and I deeply regret that this situation occurred.

Since that time, I have met personally with the parents and students involved. Through open and honest dialogue, we have reached a place of mutual understanding and reconciliation. I am grateful for their willingness to come together in that spirit.

As a district, we remain committed to fostering respect, empathy, and strong relationships across our schools and community. This experience has strengthened my commitment to modeling those values and ensuring that every interaction reflects the dignity and care our students and families deserve.

While we cannot share specific details to protect the privacy of those involved, our priority remains ensuring a safe and respectful environment for our students. Additional questions or concerns can be directed to info@bhas.org <mailto:info@bhas.org>.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to create a positive environment for all members of our district community.
