As downtown Buchanan businesses continue to struggle with a drop in customers due to major construction work going on in the area, the Buchanan Area Senior Center has launched a new promotion to help.
Center Director Adam Burck tells us they started Senior Wednesdays this month. As part of the campaign, 22 downtown Buchanan businesses are offering special deals or perks to seniors when they come in on Wednesdays.
Burck says they’ve even seen attendance at the senior center drop, so he knows the businesses have been hurting.
“You have to go through detours, finding your way around,” Bruck said. “Some people just don’t want to deal with it. So we wanted our favorite businesses to be here when the construction is over, and we thought this was one way to help support them. It was something that we could do to help.”
Burck says Senior Wednesdays have been making a difference.
“You know, there’s some really nice offers. And when I was in Glendora Bookshop a week ago, I asked how it was doing for them and they said, ‘Oh my God, we had three people come in today.’ It was a Wednesday. ‘We had three people come in using the senior Wednesdays.'”
And Burck says he saw plenty of senior center regulars when he stopped by Chunk’s Ice Cream. He reminds everyone they can still access downtown Buchanan businesses by following the detour signs.
While Burck says he knows all of the infrastructure work going on right now is an inconvenience, it is necessary. The senior center just wanted to do what it could to help.
