Berrien County Animal Services offering adoption special

Berrien County Animal Services has announced its shelter is overflowing, and it could use a little help freeing up some space.

Shelter manager Ashley Herr told us Friday because people are traveling and doing other fun summer stuff, a lot of pets are winding up at the facility.

When I walked through this morning, we only had about two or three kennels open in our dog area, and I think we have, at most, maybe four or five cat kennels, and we’re taking in a litter kittens as I’m talking to you,” Herr said. “So I know that number’s going to go down as the day goes on.”

So, Herr says Animal Services is offering a summer adoption special thanks to the Friends of Berrien County Animal Services.

They are helping cover a good portion of our adoption fees for cats and dogs. So dogs will be $30 for anyone who’s interested in adopting one.”

Herr says the usual adoption fee for dogs is $85. And that comes with spaying and neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping. The fee to adopt a cat is $15 and also comes with all of those services. Herr notes they even have a friendly rabbit named Hopper now available for adoption. Hopper is $15.

Anyone interested in making a new furry friend is told to contact Berrien County Animal Services to set up an appointment. Herr does add the fees for puppies may be higher, but most dog adoptions will come in at $30.

The Animal Services crew will also be out at the Peach Fest in Coloma on August 2 and the Berrien County Youth Fair from August 11 through August 16. Keep an eye out for them.
