The Ice Bucket Challenge is making a comeback.
You may recall the Ice Bucket Challenge started in 2014 as a fundraiser for ALS. It was very successful and now an organization called Active Minds, a non-profit focusing on transforming mental health in youth and young adults, have rebooted the efforts and has already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the charity.
Dr. Michelle Kees, associate professor at the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry, says this is a great way to start a conversation with your kids about mental health.
“I hope that we can actually use it then as adults with our children to talk about this topic, not just to get the ice out of the freezer, not just to film the video and say that’s great. Who do you want to nominate? But then to step back and say, so why is this happening? And what’s the challenge about? And tell me more.”
And the organizers hope the awareness will have a positive and lasting effect on mental health outcomes.
