Lansing police have released new information about a mass shooting that killed one person, and injured six others over the Memorial Day weekend.

The police department says this all happened during a large gathering at Rotary Park around 3 a.m. on Monday.

They say six of the people shot are teenagers. The person killed is 17-year-old Kylete Owens. Police say a 20-year-old and a 16-year-old are listed in critical condition. Two 16-year-olds and two 18-year-olds were also shot. Their injuries are non-life threatening.

During a press conference, police announced they do not have a suspect in custody.

Chief Ellery Sosebee says moving forward, the department and the mayor of Lansing are working to address the city’s gun violence.

A mayor mentioned that we’re going to start taking more enforcement on curfew,” Sosebee said. “We’re going to be taking more enforcement on gatherings in parks and in parking lots. I’ve been met with criticism in the past about breaking up these events because people need a place to congregate, but that time has passed. We are going to take enforcement on this and we’re going to be very aggressive on it.”

The Lansing Police Department does believe this was an isolated incident.
